
Here are a few pics from the tour that we did the first weekend that we got here. Above is a picture of la palza de armas.

Arequipa is surrounded by three volcanoes. All are inactive.
This one above is the most famous Misti.



We went to the monestario Santa Catalina here in town. Its an ancient monastery that is basically a little city. The tradition was that the second daughter of the richest families in the community were to send their daughters here. It was a privilege for them to have a daughter in the monastery. But once a daughter entered in the monestary she never left. She was also never seen by her family again. They have visitation rooms much like we have in prisons but you cant see thru the window its like a window of wood that you cant see thru.




This is a picture of a typical room of one of the monjas.

This is where they would wash their clothes. They would place a rock infront of the "bowl" (sorry i cant think of the word for the big bowls along the side) but when you place a rock there the water will enter into the bowls.
